Or tight fit. But mostly loose fit.
Lee and I are doing Weight Watchers. We’re making progress, slowly, but we’re heading in the right direction.
However, we are also going on holiday in 7 weeks and I have a number of social engagements coming up which I’d like a new frock for. But being between sizes at the moment, it’s proving very difficult to find something that bloody fits.
Take this past week or so’s endeavours:

The one that fit was a top that I bought because it was in the sale, so doesn’t help my frock hunt any.
So I think I’ve come to the conclusion that I should just make my own. I am a bit of a sewing dullard though, so I’m looking for a beginner’s dress pattern that I can make at home. Any recommendations? Also if you’ve seen any cool fabric recently that would make a nice dress, hit me up with a link. In my head, I have seen a cream fabric with a small red scissors print all over it – does that exist or is just in my imagination?

I’m Claire and I live near Glasgow, in Scotland. I have strong family ties to Cincinnati, too and regard it as my second home. If I had to describe myself in five words, it would be thus: Does. Not. Suffer. Fools. Gladly.
I’ve been cross stitching pretty much all my life, but professionally since 2005, first as Miso Funky, then as The Bellwether and now under my own name. I'm known for my witty, sarcastic and occasionally profane typographic designs. My work has been featured in The Sunday Times, The Guardian, Channel 4 and on BBC television as well as numerous media outlets across the globe. At one point, I was kind of a big deal but I mostly just dabble in it these days when I have time.
My website is a repositry of cross stitch charts, travel and food blogging and you'll find it at www.antibullshitleague.com.
I also love to travel and eat, ideally travelling somewhere great to eat something brilliant. I'm fascinated by social history, particularly the Victorians and will absolutely beat you hands down in a quiz about the Tudors. Dogs are LIFE.
I like being in water and have lots of ideas that will never see the light of day but would definitely be a winner on Dragon’s Den/Shark Tank. I love to give people gifts. I! also! overuse! exclamation! marks! sorry!

This blog: http://www.meetmeatmikes.blogspot.com has some nice patterns, the blog owner has published a couple of books with nice, basic dress patterns in them that you can adjust to whatever size. I made a shift dress from it and used quite cheap material as it was my first go but it turned out pretty, the shoulders were a bit wonky. Another blogger who does nice dresses is: http://pinklizzysews.blogspot.com
