Stop actin’ like you’re a gangbanger. You’re a twerp.

Day In The Life – Saturday 6th November 2008

My day in the life is a little late as I was busy with working and then in London. Because I’m too tight to pay £7 an hour for wireless access, I’m posting it ‘pon my return home!

Wake up about 7am. I’m working, so have to get up and have a shower, etc. Feed Steve the goldfish and look outside to check for snow. There isn’t any. Boo.

Once I am dressed, etc, switch on laptop to check for any important emails. I love my new laptop as it’s so tiny and cute and light.

Ready to leave house and Lee offers to give me a lift into town so I can drop my stuff off with Marceline at Made In The Shade. Roll up, hang around for a while whilst the staff at The Lighthouse sort out who is going where and then land my stuff upstairs. Talk to Josie for a bit and then have to leave so I can get to work for 10am. Stop off quickly at Sainsburys for some lunch and then get the subway to Cessnock.

Off the subway, round the icy road to work. The cranky receptionist isn’t in at the weekends, hurrah! Get upstairs and settle down to 10 hours of subtitling. I start to crack on with the Songs Of Praise Cliff Richard Special and am delighted to receive an email shortly afterwards asking me to work on Never Mind The Buzzcocks instead. I’m sharing it with a girl in London, so we talk on MSN for a bit to decide on who’s doing what, what colours the guests should be, etc.

Am feeling very left out as everyone else is craft fairing it up and I am stuck at work. Get some text updates from Marceline to keep me posted on the action. Finish Buzzcocks and go back to Cliff. It’s chronic. The man is a machine tho. He’s being interviewed by Sally Magnusson who is, I learn to my surprise, 53. Well, I never! She daringly asks Cliffy if he’s gay. Annoyingly, he tells her to mind her own beeswax.

Finish work at 8pm. Sadly only 45 minutes of Cliff done, so know I have to come in tomorrow morning to another 15 minutes, starting with Millennium Prayer. It’s a wonder I go back on Sunday!

Lee comes to collect me as the area is a bit dodgy, especially after dark. We go and get chips on the way home to compensate for my 10 hours of captivity. We go home and eat our chips and examine our Christmas village scene which Lee has set up. He’s even built a hill for it out of polystyrene ceiling tiles which, when covered with magic powdered snow, looks fantastic!

Starting to feel very Christmassy as Lee also bought our Christmas tree. It’s thankfully not as mahoosive as last year’s which we named Hagrid such was it’s size. This one is more of a Bob Cratchitt. We then added lights and ornaments, including 2 new ones which arrived in a huge box of presents from Anne and Jim in Cincinnati. Resist urge to open all the numerous gifts in the box too.

After we’ve set up our Christmas stuff, I check for emails, sort out what needs done for orders and then do a little crimble shopping online too. Then it’s time for bed as I’m back at work on Sunday for another 10 hours of Cliff and co. Take my book with me (The Devil Wears Prada – it’s good!) and fall asleep around midnight. Good nacht!

If you haven’t done so, please leave a comment with a link to yours so I can collate them!

I’m Claire and I live near Glasgow, in Scotland. I have strong family ties to Cincinnati, too and regard it as my second home. If I had to describe myself in five words, it would be thus: Does. Not. Suffer. Fools. Gladly. I’ve been cross stitching pretty much all my life, but professionally since 2005, first as Miso Funky, then as The Bellwether and now under my own name. I'm known for my witty, sarcastic and occasionally profane typographic designs. My work has been featured in The Sunday Times, The Guardian, Channel 4 and on BBC television as well as numerous media outlets across the globe. At one point, I was kind of a big deal but I mostly just dabble in it these days when I have time. My website is a repositry of cross stitch charts, travel and food blogging and you'll find it at www.antibullshitleague.com. I also love to travel and eat, ideally travelling somewhere great to eat something brilliant. I'm fascinated by social history, particularly the Victorians and will absolutely beat you hands down in a quiz about the Tudors. Dogs are LIFE. I like being in water and have lots of ideas that will never see the light of day but would definitely be a winner on Dragon’s Den/Shark Tank. I love to give people gifts. I! also! overuse! exclamation! marks! sorry!
